Have you ever wondered about that aircraft flying over your head? Perhaps you are already aware that
most aircraft are required to transmit location data. Anyone can easily receive that publicly available
broadcast data. Maybe you already receive that data and are feeding it to one or more of the flight
trackers. This article will help explain the fascinating hobby of aircraft tracking and will help you set up a
receiving system or tell you why it is desirable to send the data to other flight trackers.

Florence Lippert Bishop VE6FLO

Florence Bishop, beloved wife of the late Alma “Ike” Bishop, passed on Thursday, December 29th, 2022 at the age of 77 years with her loving family by her side. Florence leaves to cherish her memory her stepsons, Lynn (Stacy), Mark, Donald, and Kevin (Corilee); son-in-law, Jon (Gloria) Kapeller; step son-in-law, Glen Ross; step daughter-in-law, Linda; brother, Larry (Tammy) Lippert; sister, Geri (Ed) Lanz; sister-in-law, Mary Lippert; brother-in-law, Stan (Ardene); sister-in-law, Janice Bishop; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, step grandchildren, and friends. Besides Ike, Florence was predeceased by her daughter, Marnys; her parents, Jacob and Hazel Lippert; brother, LaVern; stepdaughter, Colleen Ross; stepson, Rex; and brother-in-law, Ed Bishop. Florence was born and raised in Medicine Hat. She was employed by the Alberta Government Telephones for 31 years working in various places, with the last 22 years in Red Deer. She met her beloved Ike and they were married in 1986. Ike and Florence moved to Medicine Hat in 1996 and it was here that was home until the time of her passing. Florence loved holidaying with Ike, working with her hands doing various needle point; but mostly spending time with family and friends. She played organ for the church for many years and was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Joseph’s Carmel Hospice for their care and kindness during this time. Florence was a quiet, kind, and giving lady and she will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on January 5th, 2023 from 12:00 to 12:55 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 7 Sierra Boulevard SW, Medicine Hat, AB, on Thursday, January 5th, 2023 at 1:00 pm with Bishop Wade Lanctot officiating. Family and friends are also welcome to participate via livestream by logging on to https://zoom.us/j/97159656717 and joining the live webcast on the above date at 12:45 pm. The interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery following the funeral service. Memorial gifts in Florence’s memory may be made to the Alberta Heart & Stroke Foundation, PO Box 460 STN K, Toronto, ON, M4P 9Z9 or to the Alberta Diabetes Foundation, 1 – 020 HRIF-East, University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB, T6G 2E1. End of Summer Social

Please mark your calendar for the CAARC End of Summer Social Friday, September 2, 2022 16:00 – 20:00.  John VE6HPY is hosting this event at his place again.   Please bring your significant other, lawn chairs and a pot luck item.  The club is providing hot dogs and buns and John is providing the fire!  Hope to see you there!   (go west of Hwy 2 on 11A to the first right after the lights at Blue Grass Sod Farm (280), it is the second driveway on the left)

Red Deer Fox Hunt

Edmonton Area Fox Hunting League
We’re meeting with the Calgary Hunters in Red Deer to talk fox hunting and do some fun hunts.
It is also on the CARA website (where the rest of the info below is from).
May Day 2022 sees fox hunters from Calgary and Edmonton rendezvousing at the Tim Hortons in Red Deer, AB 4217 – 50 Avenue.  This will be an event where the Edmonton Area Fox Hunting League meet with fox hunters from the Calgary Amateur Radio Association for a joint sharing of experience and equipment knowledge.  Real fox hunting practice will be a big part of the day, both on foot and in vehicles.

Agenda:

8:00 AM Breakfast and depart Calgary/Edmonton.

10:00 AM Meet and Greet at Tim Hortons, 4217 – 50 Avenue, Red Deer.  Review of equipment for both foot and vehicle searches.  Then head across the street for on-foot practice in Rotary Park.

1:00 PM Lunch at Tims (your own treat) or bring your own.

2:00 PM  Organize and head out for vehicle based fox hunting.

5:00 PM Regather at Tim’s, or other place, for dinner before the journey home.
